Financial aid during transition period between study and work

Graduation loan

Students approaching their final exams who find themselves in financial difficulties because they no longer have financial aid or do not have enough time to get a part time job can apply for a graduation loan. Normally, only half of the sum received this way is subject to interest. It is a 12 month financing option and the largest sum per month is 600 €. If there is no other source of financing the graduation loan is also available without interest as a complementary funding alongside the education loan. Here, students can get 300 € over a 24-months-period in these circumstances.

The maximum amount students can receive is 7.200 €. For a loan, students are required to provide a surety. For more details please refer to the guidelines.

In special emergencies, for instance if a student's BAföG is delayed, the Studierendenwerk Freiburg (SWFR) can provide a temporary loan.

The E.W. Kuhlmann Foundation grants an interest-free loan of a maximum of 2,000 € to students who are in the final phase of their studies. The loan should be repaid in the fifth year at the latest.
