The difference between Germany and other countries is that Germany rarely awards Stipends. Instead universities help student foundations and research associations when funding is sparse. Only two percent of students receive this alternate financial aid and available funds are not always fully used. Studierendenwerk helps and consults students over the different types of funding.
During the 2017/2018 winter semester Studierendenwerk will award up to four scholarships to students, who have been socially engaged and have shown exemplary volunteer work, for example: those who have assisted international students, taken part in student groups or committees with a school or university, or helped with
The scholarship awards a monthly stipend of 250 € per month and is limited to two semesters. Awarded scholarships are based on the proposal and recommendation of universities, associations, private individuals, and other such institutions. One may not recommend themselves. Proposals and recommendations are accepted until June 15, 2017.
More information concerning the proposal application can be found in the information box on the right.
Studierendenwerk holds an annual information day providing information about stipends and how to get this type of funding.
Many students are often inadequately informed about the complex stipend system. The information day aims to make the system more transparent and is also an opportunity for different funding foundations to present themselves.
