Integrated Living Communities

An offer for people with and without assistance needs

Integrative living means that people with and without disabilities live together and design their everyday life together.

IWG is a programme of the Studierendenwerk Freiburg and the Lebenshilfe Breisgau gemeinnützige GmbH.
Students without disabilities take on fixed tasks (assistance services) in an integrative shared apartment to support their flatmates with disabilities; for example, with shopping, cooking, accompanying them to appointments or household tasks, etc. Their hours are paid via the student union in Freiburg.

The hours they work are paid for by Lebenshilfe as compensation for their time and effort. The IWG leaves enough room for personal interests and the own lifestyle of all residents.

Pedagogical staff from Lebenshilfe Breisgau provide professional support to the flat-sharing communities.
