Students with care work

More and more students are taking on caregiving responsibilities for relatives during their studies.

Care does not necessarily mean physical care. Informal care means taking on household tasks that a person can no longer do due to age or illness, such as cleaning, shopping, cooking, communicating with health insurance companies and accompanying them to doctor's appointments. Anyone who provides informal care on a daily or several times a week basis over a period of several months should consider themselves a carer.

The family offices at universities or student advisory services are good first points of contact for getting help or relief during your studies. There are also certain support options available, such as applying for disadvantage compensation in examinations at most universities.

Our Social counselling services can answer questions about support options, self-help services or respite options when caring for a relative.
