Housing Eligibility Certificate (WBS)
For a large part of our family apartments in the Studentensiedlung as well as in the dormitory at Falkenbergerstraße 20a in Freiburg, which is subsidized by the 'Young Living' program, a housing eligibility certificate (WBS) from the state of Baden-Württemberg is required.
✅ What is a certificate of eligibility for housing?
The WBS is an official certificate that proves you meet the requirements for obtaining social housing. It must be issued in Baden-Württemberg and is then valid for Baden-Württemberg. It allows you to sign a rental contract for social housing, but does not entitle you to a specific apartment or dormitory room.
📝 Requirements for the WBS (as of 2025)
- Income limit for a one-person household: maximum gross annual income of €57,800
Foreign students can also apply for a WBS, provided they are allowed to stay in Baden-Württemberg for at least one year.
🌍 Where and how should I apply?
- If you already live in Baden-Württemberg:
➤ Application at the municipality where you have your primary residence - If you come from another federal state:

📌 Important notes

- The WBS is not a guarantee for an apartment or room – it is merely a prerequisite for signing a rental contract.
- Landlords are only allowed to rent social housing to individuals with a valid WBS.
