The student residences at Großhausberg impress with their striking architecture and unique location. The two 12‑storey buildings, Houses 2 and 9, are nestled into the hillside and, depending on their orientation, offer impressive views over the city or out into the surrounding greenery. Residents live in functionally and comfortably furnished single apartments of approximately 15 sqm, providing ideal retreats for focused study and relaxed living. In House 9, the 12th floor also houses the “Speicher” – a popular meeting place and a vibrant hub for shared activities and events.

In Houses 4, 6 and 8, attractive two‑ and three‑room apartments with total floor areas of 28 and 43 sqm are available. These are generally occupied by two students, though some units can also be rented for single occupancy. Some rooms feature a small balcony, inviting residents to linger and enjoy the view. A particular highlight is the spacious and modernised four‑person shared apartment (97 sqm) in House 6, which underwent extensive renovation in 2020 and offers plenty of space for communal living.

A real location advantage is the residence’s direct connection to the university network. This allows residents to benefit from exceptionally high bandwidth and extremely fast internet speeds – ideal for digital learning, streaming, gaming or creative projects.

However, the student residences at Großhausberg are much more than just a place to live: they represent an active, diverse and open community. Numerous opportunities to get involved invite residents to actively shape residence life themselves – whether through participation in the bar team, sporting activities in the fitness room or other community initiatives. This is where connections are made, friendships develop and a true home is created during one’s studies.

Depending on the building, the university can be reached within just a few minutes on foot, making Großhausberg an ideal place to live that perfectly combines comfort, community and proximity to campus.

How to get to the Furtwangen Ski Boarding School: Am Engelgrund 2, 78120 Furtwangen

• Travel to Freiburg main station
• From Freiburg/ZOB main station, take bus no. 7206 direction Waldkirch
• Get off at Waldkirch station and change to bus no. 7272 direction Furtwangen 
• Information about train and bus timetables can be obtained directly from us. The building is located on a slope. 

Direction to the dormitory Grosshausberg:

• Arrival in Freiburg central train station
• Take exit "Hauptausgang" and follow the bus sign (ZOB) to the central bus station
• Take bus no. 7206 direction Waldkirch
• Change bus in Waldkirch main station to bus no. 7272 direction Furtwangen until station "Ilbenstraße"
• Turn into Bregstraße for about 200 m than turn right into "Baumannstrasse". Turn right into "Bahnhofstrasse" and cross the big street L 173 (Martin-Schmitt-Strasse). Follow straight ahead into "Am Grosshausberg".
