Senioren Service Börse

The senior-citizen-service-portal is a service provided by the Studierendenwerk Freiburg-Schwarzwald. The portal matches students - with or without experience in working around elderly people - with senior citizens who require assistance in their every day life.

Our senior-citizen-service-portal has been included in our service portal’s job matching  service since May of 2017.

Senior citizens may post job offers and students have the chance to directly search for jobs in the senior citizen services category. Of course you may continue to communicate your job offers by calling us.

You can find the service portal here

Many senior citizens rely on external support for their day-to-day routines increasing the demand for qualified and competent support.

Therefore we give interested students, who are experienced in interaction with senior citizens, the opportunity to apply their skills. Students are expected to support the elderly during ordinary routines in and outside their home. Students are neither expected nor required to care for the elderly in privte households outside of these daily routines.

The Senior Citizen Service is free of charge. The agreement relating to the extent of support given and the compensation is settled between the student and the person in need of care. Student Services solely enable the contact between students and the elderly.

Current Jobs you will find on our Service Platform.

Arrangements between student auxiliaries and senior citizens

Clear communication will ease the cooperation. Therefore, you are advised to discuss the following topics prior to accepting a job offer:

If relatives or an assigned institution (e.g. social services, …) are looking for an auxiliary:

Who is going to fix the job interview?

Who will be the student’s contact person?

Will the student be required to notify the contact person after a visit with the senior?

What chores will the student be asked to do?

Will the auxiliary’s primary job be to clean the apartment?

It may also be beneficial if the student is holding a valid driver’s license and can take the senior shopping or to appointments.

Does the student have to pay attention to anything particular in your household? e.g. waste separation, operation of technical appliances, …

Where can the cleaning utensils be found?

Are there any special cleaning rags for the toilet, or bathroom and kitchen sinks?

Are there any special maintenance products for plastics, wood, glass and the like?

What is included in basic cleaning?

Are there any rooms the student is not supposed to enter?

What is the arrangement if one runs out of cleaning agents and they have to be replaced?

Communicate anything else that you deem important!

Clear communication can avoid misunderstandings!

Who is the emergency contact?

Where is the important contacts list located?

Clear date and planning arrangements!

Make fixed and repeating arrangements with your auxiliary. Changing arrangements are a sure source of chaos.

Keep domicile proximity in mind! If you need urgent support, it will be beneficial if your auxiliary lives close by.

Is the auxiliary likeable and leave a good impression?

Do not make long term arrangements on the phone. Get to know each other over a cup of coffee, communicate your expectations and arrange trial work. Please keep in mind that students may not be fully available during the semester breaks.

Many senior citizens rely on external support in their day-to-day routines. The demand for qualified and competent support is gradually rising.

The Senior Citizen Service is a straightforward register allowing a suitable student to be found quickly.

Qualified students, who are chosen according to your requirements, support you with daily tasks including doing shopping, helping with housekeeping or with IT-problems. However, please be aware that care outside of these general tasks is not included.

The Senior Citizen Service is free of charge. The agreement relating to the extent of service given and the compensation is settled between the student and the person in need of care. Student Services solely enable the contact between students and the elderly.

Important advice

Accident insurance (Coverage for work and commuting accidents)

When registering your auxiliary with the Minijobzentrale, an accident insurance is included in your dues. As an employer you are responsible for covering these dues. The auxiliary will be signed up for accident insurance by the Minijobzentrale. This will protect the employer against any financial demands in case the auxiliary has an accident at work. You may find more information at www.minijobzentrale.de

Saving taxes

Assuming the auxiliary earns a maximum amount of 450 € a month, employers in private households pay reduced dues. 20% of all expenses, a maximum of 510 € per year, may be claimed in your tax declaration - an advantage for senior citizens who are required to pay taxes.

International students:

Please verify international student’s right of residence and work permit and please ask to see the student’s passport or identity card. If applicable also check the student’s eAT-card and additional paperwork.
